Yanlin Shi PhD, FSA, FIAA, CERA, CStat, FHEA
Yanlin Shi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics at the Macquarie University, where he has been a faculty member since July 2017. Before that, he worked at the Australian National University (ANU) from January 2014 to November 2016 and NSW Education Standards Authority from December 2016 to June 2017. During his teaching career, Yanlin has lectured various actuarial and statistical courses, such as Survival Models, Mathematics of Finance and Applied Statistics. Many of those courses are parts of the exemption of the Core Technique (CT) subjects of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
Yanlin completed his Ph.D. in Statistics at ANU and his undergraduate study in the Chu Kochen Honors College at Zhejiang University. His research interests fall in the areas of financial econometrics, business analytics, time series analysis and mortality modelling. He has published more than twenty-five researh articles in a wide range of international peer-reviewed academic journals, including Demography, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Scandinavian Actuarial Journal and North American Actuarial Journal.
Yanlin started his journey to qualify the Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) since 2014. He has acquired the Associate (ASA) and Charted Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) credentials from the SOA in late 2017. Yanlin was among the first cohort of candidates pursuing the new General Insurance (GI) track offered by the SOA. His Fellowship (FSA) designation was earned in June 2019, and the difficulty of his four FSA-level examinations was ranked the first out of over ten thousand candidates, according to www.actuarial-lookup.com (correct as of 2020). In early 2020, Yanlin became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA). He is also a Chartered Statistician (CStat) accredited by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
